Roman KUPCHINSKY became the editor of the "Crime, Corruption & Terrorism Watch" weekly published by RFE/RL in November 2001. Based on different sources in the countries it covers, this weekly points to some of the dangerous trends and activities which have emerged in the post-communist world, trends which constitute a real danger to democracy worldwide.
Prior to this assignment, Kupchinsky was the Director of Radio Free Europe's/Radio Liberty's Ukrainian Broadcast Service since 1991. He helped set up RFE/RL's Kyiv office and arranged for RL Ukrainian programs to be rebroadcast on an FM network throughout Ukraine. When RFE/RL moved from Munich Germany to Prague, he oversaw the reorganization of the Ukrainian Service to meet the demands of the changing situation in Ukraine.
Prior to coming to RFE/RL Kupchinsky headed Prolog Research and Publishing Corp. in New York which specialized in publishing Ukrainian samizdat literature and a monthly journal "Suchasnist". While at Prolog, Kupchinsky edited two collections of documents "The Nationality Question in the USSR" and "Pogrom in Ukraine". He graduated by a BA in Political Science from Long Island University in Brooklyn and served in the US Army from 1966-1969.
